FOUR CHAIRS
2012/GROUP PROJECT/FURNITURE

The following furniture pieces are the result of a three week summer block course, in which our group worked on a fabrication project for the Sustainability Trust. The Trust is a not-for-profit organisation providing solutions for Wellington region’s homes, communities and environment, which has recently moved into new premises in a converted warehouse at the end of Forresters Lane, off Tory Street, Wellington.
Four chairs is a furniture collection using waste stream products sourced from The Sustainability Trust's E-Cycling drop off centre. The collection is initially made from four old school chairs that have been developed into two chairs, a lamp and a table. The woven structure is made of the inner cable wire of old electrical e-waste that has been plaited and then stitched onto the reconstructed furniture frames. Each element of the collection is able to nest together adding a compact storage component. Old pallet wood is used to link each furniture piece together, as well as the other groups’ collections. The lamp was designed to be atmospheric and visually enhance the weaving aspect of the collection.
