The AVON RIVERSIDE GARDEN MARKET project is a variation of different community gardens based at different locations along the Avon river. These sites offer an environment where a local community can gather and grow their own fresh produce to prepare and cook, using the barbecues provided, or to sell at a wider Christchurch community market.

An important part of community is getting to know your neighbours. This space offers a quiet, relaxed, safe environment for people of all ages to come together and share food or stories and really gain some community pride and spirit.

As well as creating tight knit local communities on a small scale, I am proposing through this design that the smaller community gardens could come together, once a week or month, to share and sell their locally grown fresh produce with the greater Christchurch community. The access to the river provides an excellent method of sustainable transport for carting fresh fruit and vegetables to the market areas.

It is all about sharing resources and coming together as a whole community to promote a better way of living.
